A good all-around experience
by wolfoka at Citysearch
I've eaten at this restaurant probably a dozen times since it changed hands. It's not the most authentic Mexican you will ever have. It is, after all, a small town Midwest Mexican restaurant! However, every time I have been there, the food has been good and the prices are always great.
One major bonus for me- this place is vegetarian friendly. They have several meal deals that are specifically for vegetarians.
The only downside to El Zarape is that on Friday and Saturday evenings, they get VERY busy. Expect to wait for a table and then wait quite a bit longer than usual for your food. Any other day, the food comes out very quickly but on these days, you'll need to be patient.
I guess the crush on these days is a good sign, though- It's a popular place!
- Pros: Good prices, fast service
- Cons: VERY busy on Friday/Saturday nights
Toenail in food

Terrible experience... I've eaten here a few times and while the food is decent I'm sad to say my friend was eating the salsa and chips only to find a toenail in his mouth. Unfortunately, the restaurant refused to make amends and we were still responsible for the bill.
