Editorial Review for Zombie Hut – by Kara Zuaro
The Scene
A tribal mask greets you at the front door, a thatched roof and bamboo adornments decorate the bar and a vibraphone player finishes off the more-ironic-than-exotic tropical ambience. With an appropriately kitschy touch, Zombie Hut brings the "The Brady Bunch"-in-Hawaii to Brooklyn's burgeoning restaurant row.
The Draw
Drinks decked out with umbrellas and plastic monkeys lure a mixed crowd to this lounge. The Frozen Zombie is an innocent-looking pink slushy drink made with two rums, pineapple and orange juice, but beware the first sip--a secret ingredient, possibly Bacardi 151, is shot directly into the straw. The Singapore Sling is a top choice for gin drinkers, and hula buddies can share a Scorpion Bowl, which comes aflame in a ceramic basin with two straws.

On certain nights if you're lucky you just might catch a man known as the fierce Mr. Raul Duke drunk off fruity girly drinks flamingo dancing to the musical stylings of InXS. After numerous zombies watch as he jives up to numerous women smelling each ones hair then tells anyone close enough that he could take any woman in the bar to get chicken parm them feel them up on the pier. Watch closely when he whips out his bill fold and you just might glimpse his treasured picture of a shirtless Hugh Jackman loving pressed into his wallet. This might be the only chance to see his wallet as he will always tell you he has no cash as the bill comes. The man known as The Duke is a tight fisted man. As the night winds down he will exclaim in a slurred raspy voice his overwhelming desire for pregnant woman he would marry if only a few years older. (Sorry to get off topic but the bar does have good drinks and a nice staff.)
Pros: Long hair
Cons: No pregnant women

decent drinks and yes the girls behind the bar are cute (attracting a largely frat-boy crowd if that's your thing) but the decor is so seriously non-authentic they should just re-do the place as something entirely different. Try Wakiki Wally's (glitzy) or Otto's Shrunken Head (divey) in the East Village for more authentic parphernalia. Otherwise there are way better establishments more deserving of your money in the area (Brooklyn Social for the cocktails and old-school glamour, Boat for the jukebox, Magnetic Field for the live music, etc., etc.)
