Sylvania >Sewing & Vacuum Express
I am sorry that the person who wanted
the antique sewing machine had such a bad experience. I've bought 4 or 5 machines there, and each has been a good deal with great customer support. I get them cleaned at Sewing Express, and they always come back like new.
The owner may be a little hard to understand, but the other staff there are most gracious. The owner has always dealt with me fairly and given me good offers.
As for the antique sewing machine, while sentimental to the customer, it is not sentimental to the shop owners. They buy machines to make money on them. When the mother sold it to them, they did just that. They can't afford to keep trade-ins and purchases in storage just in case a relative may come in wanting it back.
As for being shocked that the machine was taken apart, please remember that it's not the machine that was sentimental to you, it was the memories of your mom sewing with it. Those memories will be with you forever, if you can let go of your anger and accept the reality of the sewing machine market.
Worst customer service ever!. My Mom, who has now passed on, had Alzheimer's and traded in her antique sewing machine here before I even knew it. I wanted to try to buy it back. I came into the store to inquire about it. After explaining the situation and the sentimental value it had to me, I asked if there was any chance they still had it. The lady coldly said "no they probably just parted it out and threw the rest away since they had no use for an old machine like that". After seeing the look of horror on my face at the thought of it being picked apart and thrown away. She said "yep!" as though she was very satisfied that her news shocked me. Then months later a friend reminded my of this incident when she went there and got a very snotty sales lady who was snobbish and not helpful. I'm pretty sure it was the same lady. Awful place don't go there. Even Hancock fabric next door did not seem surprised when she told them how unhelpful they were.
