Editorial Review for Milk and Honey – by Erin Behan

The Scene
Once buzzed through the unmarked door of this "tailor shop," the lucky few enter a sanctum of hushed reverence. The dimly lit space, which feels trapped in time, has five deep cozy banquettes and a small bar. A single waiter gently whisks drinks on a candle-lit platter to and from the bar. The only sounds are the murmur of voices and the shaking of cocktails.

The Draw
You'll have to work your connections to find the bar's unlisted number and address; then call no more than a day in advance for a reservation. It's not about being famous, and patrons range wildly in age, dress and social status. The cocktails, guided by owner Sasha's impeccable taste, are renowned for their inventiveness and nuance. There's no drink list; guests can ask for a specific cocktail or make general requests about flavors and liquors and wait for the creative returns.

It took me sadly a year to finally get the secret number and address, but it was well worth the wait! Come with an idea of what kind of tastes you prefer and they will custom tailor drinks to your individual likes. Be warned though the drinks are pretty pricey ($15) but you're also paying for the attention to detail, private ambiance, and exclusivity. Keep hunting for the # cause that's part of the fun! :-)

Pros: Exclusive, Secret, Low Light, Best bar in NY!

Cons: Little price at $15 a drink

I consider myself an extremely lucky guy. I live in New York, I have great friends, and I get to socialize at places that you only believe exist in movies. And even with this attitude of appreciating my surroundings, Milk and Honey still exceeded my expectations. I've been there twice, both with very good friends, and I can't tell you how refreshing it was to note have to deal with name dropping, waiting behind the velvet rope, and just enjoying the fact that you are a regular person receiving treatment usually reserved for stars at most places. To start, the whole idea of creating a place where everyone has an equal shot of getting in is perfect and unheard of in this day and age. Second, the cocktails are great. Sophisticated and non-pretentious, you're not going to find the Jaegerbomb/Jack N' Coke crowd here. No plates of $80 tapas or getting your face pushed in as people walk aimlessly from one side of the room to the other, Milk and Honey is, to say it best, a drinking establishment. You don't go there to be seen, you don't go there to pick up girls/guys. You go there to appeciate the art of making a great cocktail and exeriencing it in a relaxing setting with great friends.
